 History of Able Refrigeration

We do it all--from start to finish!

Carol Hull started Able Refrigeration, Incorporated.
When the key turns in the front door of Able Refrigeration, Inc. in Tucson, Arizona a pair of stylish, size six double A, high heel pumps pass over the threshold. The shoes and the business belong to Ms. Carol Hull, President and CEO of Able Refrigeration.

Who says Air Conditioning Is a Man's Game?

On a hot Tucson summer day in 1978, Carol Hull, a young recently widowed mother of two, was at a crossroad in her life. She wasfaced with a tough decision. How do I take care of my family? As a well
trained,  highly skilled surgical nurse she could adequately provide; but the long, stressful and frequently uncertain hours associated with the nursing profession did not offer the opportunity to be with her children.

As she sat pondering her future, watching the translucent snake like heat waves rise from the near liquid blacktop drive in front of her house, she came to the conclusion that keeping people cool was a business that could only grow and prosper in Southern Arizona. She reasoned that if she could learn surgical nursing she could learn how to keep people comfortable in the searing Arizona heat.
Along with a partner, they worked at her kitchen table at night, putting together bids and in hot attics during the day installing air conditioners. She proudly shows battle scars from banging into ducts and welding on her now well-manicured hands.

About Ron Hull
While living in Denver, Ron was offered many promotions in a factory atmosphere, this was not the job that Ron saw in his future. Following a walk one afternoon in 1969, he noticed that everyone had an air conditioner, a refrigerator, and air conditioning in their cars. This vision changed his future and brought him back to Tucson, Arizona to find a school where he could learn about air conditioning.

Midway through the semester, his instructors were so impressed that they asked him to help teach. Upon completion of air conditioning school, Ron continued his education and received his associates degree in HVAC from Pima College and has had extensive continuing education in duct work design, duct leakage measurement, ventilation and commercial refrigeration.
He is also a graduate of Carrier College.

In 1976, Ron and Carol met. Both entrepreneurial spirits, they decided to form a partnership in more ways than one! Hence, Able Refrigeration was founded. Ron went on to serve as chairman of the education committee of the Southern Arizona Mechanical Contractors for four and  a half years providing classes for the refrigeration service people in Tucson and surrounding area.

Today Able Refrigeration has 13 employees and 8 trucks.
They operate out of a facility that has a complete sheet metal shop and employees that can fabricate all special fittings required.

"Being a native of Tucson and enduring the many hot summers, I thought it was time to inquire about air conditioning. I found that Able Refrigeration has been in Tucson for 33 years so I gave them a call. I had an estimate for the full job the next day. They also gave me some helpful energy saving tips for after the air conditioning was installed.

During installation I found that the installers were very polite and worked around my schedule. They always left the work area clean at the end of the day. The technicians were prompt when appointments were made for servicing and let me know everything that they were doing.

I am a satisfied customer of Able Refrigeration and have recommended them to a few of my friends. My utility bills have been much lower and the AC sure has helped with my seasonal allergies. " -January 21. 2006
